So many people find it difficult to start decorating when they first move into a home. Even when you’ve lived in your house for years and are looking to re-decorate, it can seem almost impossible to know where to start.

Well today I wanted to share with you 10 staples that I think every home needs. Starting off with these 10 items will go a long way and also provide you with so many great neutrals that should last years and never go out of style.

When giving design advice to friends/family/clients, I always suggest purchasing neutrals as the base items. For example, a neutral couch will go perfectly with a bold set of navy pillows.  But lets say a year goes by and you’re sick of the navy pillows. What do you do? Simply swap them out with another set! Maybe this year you’re feeling pink and orange – go for it. Thanks to affordable stores like HomeGoods, TJ Maxx and Marshall’s (just to name a few), replacing accent pieces like pillows, lamps etc. will be a MUCH more affordable option than replacing an entire couch. This rule applies to so many furniture staples, which is why I’m providing you with a list of my 10 must-haves. Enjoy!

1. Neutral Couch/Sectional (via) $599

Ikea couches have my heart – they are super cheap AND have slipcovers. Say no more. line

2. Upholstered Accent Chair (via) $349

Sure, I love me a good patterned accent chair, but every home needs something neutral that can be moved from room to room if need be.

3. Coffee Table (via) $209

A sleek coffee table can match just about any style of home decor. I love this one in particular because it’s modern with a touch of rustic. I also own this baby which you can find (here) in my recent living room makeover.

This “TV stand” is actually a bookshelf. Whaa? Mind. Blown. I own this beauty and use it as my media stand in the den. I needed something long (to fit a 60 inch flat screen) but I didn’t want to fork out hundreds of dollars on a large media stand (because yeah, all that mula was spent on the dang TV). And honestly, I love the look of a bookshelf even more than an actual TV stand. Now that’s a win-win if you ask me.

5. Accent Tables (#1, #2, #3) $104 – $294

Man, I love each of these stunners. And I think I need to buy them all. Too bad I don’t have any place for them just yet. I think I’ll put them on my wish-list for now.

6. Console Table (via) $77

BB_6_ConsoleTable2

This console table has it all. I just purchased it for my entry way and LOVE it SO much. I had it on my “want to buy” list for about a year, and when it went on sale for $65 (at the time – it’s now $77), I simply couldn’t pass it up.

7. Kitchen Table (via) $499

Mmmm. Rustic, traditional, clean. That’s all that needs to be said.

8. Dining Chairs (via) $149

BB_8_DiningChairs

I love upholstered dining chairs because they are just so versatile. If you get bored of them for your dining room, they can always act as accent chairs in another space. And if you have guests over and need extra chairs? They are so light weight and can be moved into any room last minute.

9. Neutral Headboard (via) $174 – $269

A neutral headboard allows you to go crazy with your bedding choice. OR if you want to stick to the neutral theme, you can still get away with it. Target has a ton of affordable options that give you the Pottery Barn look.

10. Writing Desk (via) $665

So I have to admit, this one is a bit of a splurge coming in right under $700. So yeah, not as affordable as the rest. But c’mon… LOOK at it! I don’t even need words to describe the beauty – am I right?

So that’s it – thats my list! A number of these items I actually own in my own home and LOVE. For example, I own the white console table, rustic coffee table and also the TV stand/bookshelf. They are all some of my favorite items in my home and I would recommend them in a heart beat!

As if these weren’t enough fabulous finds for you here on The Blissful Bee, I’ve got a second list of must-haves for you guys today on Fort Worth, Texas magazine’s blog, here. Make sure to check it out!
